Program
9:00 departure from L’Aquila through the section of Tratturo Magno on the ancient Transhumance route. Arrival in Bominaco to visit the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, masterpiece of the abruzzese romanesque period, and the Chapel of Saint Pilgrim, completely decorated with frescoes paintings dating back from the XIII century. It’s possible to reach the castle ruins located just a few steps from the Benedectine complex from which you can enjoy a stunning view over the valley. Departure for Navelli, one of the most beautiful village in Italy, with its thousand windows overlooking the valley and quietly supervising the plain. Walking tour in the village and optional lunch in a typical restaurant with local products including the famous DOP saffron exported all over the world. 15:00 arrival in Capestrano and visit to the Piccolomini Castle three circular towers and a prismatic tower from which you can admire the entire Tirino Valley. At the entrance the Warrior of Capestrano, symbol of archaeological Abruzzo, welcomes you and you can pay a visit to a small museum of the Second World War. Possibility to visit the Church of San Pietro Ad Oratorium which boasts the mysterious "Square of Sator". Photo stop at the River Tirino, the clearest in Europe and departure to go back.
